For this doll, I first made rag doll with scrap fabric, poly-fill, and yarn for hair. I then dipped the doll in porcelain and painted it. For the flower tiles, I made a mold for the porcelain. The rag doll itself is based off of traditional Mexican rag dolls and the flowers and bright colors also were in reference to the trips I would take to Mexico as a child with my grandparents. When I was working on this piece, I was very homesick and thinking about how fragile childhood is and that is it quickly fleeting.
Very fittingly created at the start of the Pandemic and through the uncertainty of the shutdowns. I got to paint my doll and had to leave her behind for months without knowing what she’d turn out like.
